Chase Frederick Coggins

The Chase Coggins Memorial Fellowship is named for Chase Frederick Coggins, Class of 1979, Timothy Dwight College. While at Yale, Chase rowed heavyweight crew, sang with the Glee Club, and was a member of Saint Anthony Hall and the Elizabethan Club. Away from Yale, Chase became involved with pre-Columbian archeology in both South and Central America. He also became an experienced hiker and a cross-country skier, and was devoted to teaching others to appreciate the joy of the wilderness experience.

Purpose of the Fund
The Fund aims to perpetuate Chase's ideals and influence on the Yale community, by assisting Yale undergraduates in 1) wilderness exploration with philosophical, artistic or scientific intent, and 2) travel to rural areas or developing countries to document and study those regions from a variety of perspectives (including natural/cultural history, anthropology, and linguistics). New information and perspectives gained from this experience should be shared with other members of the Yale community.
